Nästan alla barn älskar den animerade filmserien Bilar. Utom vår Bella då, eftersom vi valt att hålla henne borta från olämpligheter som lätt kan ge de små skruvade samhällsideal.
Tar jag i nu? Ja, men hon måste bli mer ståndaktig innan hon utsätts för dålig propaganda med syftet att göra bilsamhället ännu mer dominant i stadsinfrastrukturen.
Det är osmakligt att, som i Pixarfilmerna, ge bilar person- och karaktär, när de i själva verket är stendöda ohållbarhetsmaskiner.
Barn är mjuka och bilar är hårda. Det kan ingen förneka.
Men varför är jag så uppriven då? Tar jag inte i lite väl mycket i mitt fördömande av dagens småbarnskultur? Absolut men…
…det är nämligen på det sättet att vi varit med om nåt väldigt alarmerande, och om vi inte säger stopp nu – kommer utopin om hållbara städer med ren luft, där man tar sig fram genom att cykla, gå- eller åka kollektivt – aldrig att bli verklighet.
Vi var nämligen hos Bellas bästis och hans familj, här om kvällen.

Som vanligt är det väl offensiv som är det viktiga. Inte defensivt, har själv funderat på cykelleksaker, ge bort en cyklande docka. 🙂
Det är för mycket motordrivet överhuvudtaget bland leksaksutbudet. Undrar hur många leksaksbilar varje svenskt barn har i snitt? 40?
Det här var något av det förnumstigaste jag läst på länge. Klart att bilkulturen är införlivad i vårt samhälle, precis som många saker är det som inte är hållbara (Ätande av industrikött, fossila bränslen, giftiga plaster som hamnar i naturen). Barn älskar många saker som har koppling till dessa problem (tex McDonalds, åka GoCart, massor av plastleksaker)
Men du drar ju alldeles för tydliga paralleller mellan Pixar-bilar och bilar som transportmedel! Jag tror knappast att denna koppling är så stark för små barn så att de tillmäter sin EGEN familjs bil en massa personlighet! Eller har du sett exempel på detta? ”Heeej, min Volvolina, vad roligt det ska bli att åka med dig?” Exemplet ovan är ju bara alldeles för vagt tycker jag för dina argument! Att tillmäta saker personlighet är ett känt grepp inom alla sagor och berättelser, framförallt inom den moderna tecknade traditionen. Att vissa saker är ok att ge personlighet (kvastar och kaffekannor) men inte bilar är för mig helt barockt. Snarare är det ett bra uttryck att illustrera kommunikation och känslor, medmänskliga sidor som alla barn behöver lära sig.
Bilar är i ett barns värld roliga, man ser dem överallt, de brummar och låter och rör på sig. Att det kan bli en bil som dödar ditt barn en dag är barnet lyckligt ovetande om, och är desto viktigare att prata om. Sakernas tillstånd är som dem är i stor utsträckning, men det viktiga är ju diskussionen med barnet! Att prata om hur saker kunde vara. Att det finns stora problem med biltrafik. Inte att hålla dem ovetande om allt, hur fan ska man kunna det i en värld där de nås av aldrig nog så sublima budskap när de är så små som två år.
När jag var liten ritade jag av Ferraribilar, följde med min kompis på Power Big Meet för att titta på gamla bilar, lekte med MicroMachines, bilbanor, byggde legobilar. Jag såg ingen koppling mellan detta bilintresse och vår gamla Toyota, trots att vi bodde i ett radhus långt bort och var extremt bilberoende. Men sedan att ingen problematiserade bilsamhället med mig, att ingen lärde mig om att bilismen enligt den samlade forskningen gör oss feta, panka, skapar döda städer med låg ekonomisk aktivitet och få sociala förbindelser, skapar en sabbad stadsplanering där alla människor har långt till allt och isoleras, det var däremot synd. Om någon tagit diskussionen med mig så hade jag definitivt varit mer ”ståndaktig”, men knappast om någon inte låtit mig titta på Herbie och Flåklypa Grand Prix, en av de roligaste filmer jag sett som liten.
Vad blev jag då? Jo en helt övertygad urbanist utan bil med god insikt i forskningen på området. Man kan inte skydda, bara diskutera, problematisera och då ger man verktyg. Jag tror inte på renlärighet, bara på diskussion.
Jo, och om ni gör allt för att skydda henne från detta så ser jag framför mig även en fin tonårsrevolt med en 18-åring som direkt köper en Jeep på lån för att kunna sladda runt i skogen som Tina Thörner. Ha det så kul!

Ändå lite kul att en treåring som nästan är besatt av filmerna uttrycker sig på det sätt: Ni kan inte komma hem för ni har ingen bil.
Lätt att, om man vill, dra vissa paralleller…men mest lite skoj.
Bella har en massa små leksaksbilar. Vill ju undvika en revolt och få henne att känna att hon valt själv;)
